Willow Ptarmigan! Finally. Last mothergrabbin' day of the trip. Hiked up Baldy Mountain in Eagle River, which has an incredible view over Anchorage. I had given up at this point. We made it to the top of the mountain, gnashing my teeth that we didn't get the easiest bird in Alaska and up from a stunted Willow tree, came a crazed family of Ptarmigan. Parents did their broken wing dance in front of me while the babies scurried in the other direction. I didn't mean to get that close. I really didn't believe they existed at this point anyways. Horned Lark hanging out up there as well.
