Flyover

Metal-eyed and sun-drenched
the spires of pine
whisper with ghosts of bone
A monster buzzes low the woods
Cathedral shaken, we fall silent
Bleeding into boughs
a passing day of glowing fear
with quiet wings
still, until the gloaming.

Goatsucker, etc.

Common Nighthawk, Church Trail, Longpond Road. Nearly vomited at the excitement of finding this.

Chukar, Alabama Swamps. Minus the vomit inducing excitement, but still fun to see.

Sparrows, Barbed Wire, SPARROWS, Nations Road, SparRoows

Nations Road is located in Livingston County and it's a grassland birding paradise:

Did you know that Grasshopper Sparrows have soul patches? Now you know.

Savannah Sparrow in full throttle this morning

This was the head shot-the reason to be here: Clay-colored Sparrow. Two of them. Thrilled to have seen it and buzz up a serious storm

New York Warblers

Slowly but surely I'm cobbling together a decent enough Spring list and a few pictures to go with. These were all taken around Rochester, NY: Owl Woods, Island Cottage, West Spit and Firehouse Woods.

Black-throated Blue

Catherine and I didn't think there was a bird rustling around on the floor, or just couldn't be bothered with looking at the ground, but clearly, this Ovenbird was pissed at Brooke for stepping on its kicks.

This fella deserves a post to himself. Found by Buffalo birder Sal Salembier at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
